Summer transfer window opens May 28 for students

The Knox County Schools summer transfer window will begin on Tuesday, May 28 at 8 a.m. and conclude Friday, July 12, 2013 at 4 p.m. The summer transfer window is an opportunity for parents and/or legal guardians of students that meet the following criteria:
  • 2013-14 kindergarten students Students new to the Knox County Schools (i.e. coming from private school, home school, out of county or out of state)
  • Students who have had a change in family circumstances such as custody or guardianship since February 18, 2013
  • Students with a change of address since February 18, 2013
  • Students seeking a transfer to a “magnet” program where space is available
Proof of one of the above circumstances must be provided with the transfer application (with the exception of kindergarten students). An example of proof documentation can be a lease agreement, closing statements for the purchase of new home, court documents, and/or end of year report cards from a private school. The child’s name and birth date is required on the proof being supplied and must be submitted with the application.  
 
There are three ways to apply for a transfer during the summer window: 
1.    In person, by completing a transfer application form available at
        912 S. Gay Street. The Transfer Office is in Suite 103
2.     By downloading an application form on the Internet from
        transfers.knoxschools.org and faxing to 865-594-1504 or mailing to: Supervisor of Enrollment,
        P.O. Box 2188, Knoxville, TN 37901
3.     Current Knox County School students may apply on-line by using
         their parent portal log in (NOTE: the on-line application will not be available June 10-14 due
         to maintenance)
 
Please note that out-of-county transfer requests will only be considered after all Knox County students have been approved. The Knox County Schools will use a “lottery-style” process to determine transfer placements.

2013-2014 Magnet Transfer Window OPEN, Showcase, Open House set

The 2013-14 MAGNET Transfer window is now OPEN.  Anyone wishing to apply for a transfer to a Knox County Magnet School may do so by completing an application. You may submit an application online or download the application and complete it. At this time, we are accepting only applications for our Magnet Schools. The transfer period closes on February 18 2013.

West High School Announces IB Testing Dates
Once you have submitted your application for West High School and it is processed by the Magnet Office the IB Coordinator from West High School will contact you for a testing date. The dates for this period are: Thursday, January 17; January 31; February 5; and February 21. (Please note the February 21 date is reserved for applicants who apply the week of the deadline- Feb 18 or who have chosen the IB program as their second choice.) Beaumont Magnet Announces Honors Testing Dates
Once you have submitted your application for the Beaumont Honors program and it is processed by the Magnet Office you will be contacted to set up a testing appointment. The dates for this period are: Friday, January 18; Wednesday, January 30; Friday, February 8; and Thursday, February 21. (Please note the February 21 date is reserved for applicants who apply the week of the deadline- Feb 18.) Please contact the magnet office at 594-1731 with any questions.

Directions:

Beaumont Fine Arts and Honors Magnet Academy:
T
ake I-40 East to I-275 North (keep straight at the I-640 East Exit). Take the I-275 North exit to the Baxter Avenue West Exit. Turn left onto Baxter Avenue. Stay to the right and turn between the Pilot and Spur Gasoline stations onto Beaumont Avenue. The school is just ahead on the right.


Green Math and Sciences Magnet Academy:

Take I-40 East to James White Parkway (keep straight at the I-640 East Exit) and take the Summit Hill exit. Turn left onto Summit Hill. Continue on Summit Hill through the first traffic light and go approximately one block. Turn right onto Townview Drive. School is located in the center of Townview Drive on the left.

Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Technology Academy:

Take I-40 East to James White Parkway (keep straight at the I-640 East Exit) and take the  Summit Hill exit. Turn left onto Summit Hill. Stay on Summit Hill through the second traffic light. The road now becomes Dandridge Avenue. Stay on Dandridge Avenue until you come to a 5-way stop. Veer left onto Brooks Road. The School is approximately two miles down on the left.


Vine Middle Performing Arts and Sciences Magnet School:

Take I-40 East to James White Parkway (keep straight at the I-640 East Exit) and take the Summit Hill exit. Turn left onto Summit Hill. Go to the second traffic light and turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The school is directly ahead on the left.


Austin East Magnet High School:

Take I-40 East to James White Parkway (keep straight at the I-640 East Exit) and take the Summit Hill exit. Turn left onto Summit Hill. Go to the second traffic light and turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The school is 2 miles down on the right.

Fulton High School (School of Communications):
From downtown Knoxville proceed north on Broadway to Woodland Avenue. The school is lcoated in front of St. Mary's Medical Center and adjacent to the Broadway Shopping Center. From I-40 take the Broadway exit; from I-275 take the Woodland Exit.

L&N STEM Academy:
Take I-40 east to Exit 388 and follow signs for downtown/Henley street. Turn right onto Clinch Ave and turn left onto World's Fair Park drive. Follow World's Fair Park drive, the L&N STEM academy is on your right at the 4 way stop.

West High School (IB):
Take I-40 West to exit 383 (Papermill Drive). Turn left on Papermill Drive. Turn right on Hollywood Road. Turn left on Sutherland Avenue. The school is on the right at the corner of Sutherland Avenue and Tobler Lane.
